Fayez's Page

This is a picture of Fayez and his brother. Fayez is cute little kid on the left. It is the closest thing I have to a “ family picture ”. Fayez is from Saudi Arabia, and he is diligently pursuing a degree in osteopathic medicine. He has three brothers and three sisters … .and a mother and dad, of course. Back during his high school days in Saudi Arabia, he was an outstanding handball player. (Not the kind of handball we know… .but the strange kind they play across the ocean!) I like to think that my home is his home while he is living in the USA. I try to be nice to him… .because someday he will probably be my cardiologist! Fayez and his brother

Fayez first night at my house This Fayez on the first night at my house. Actually, he was late arriving….very late. In fact, I though maybe he had changed his mind and was not coming. But, he got lost….in Jefferson County, of all places. He arrived at around dusk….with his trademark smile on his face. To celebrate his arrival, we had a snow storm that night. A fitting gift for a desert boy, I thought. But, now, at least, he knows where I live….and he keeps coming back.

I am happy to see Fayez show up, if for no other reason that he prepares some super-delicious food. When Fayez is in the house, he is the chef….the grand preparer of mouth-watering meals. His specialty is a traditional Saudi Arabian food called Kabsa….which consists of rice, meat (in our case chicken) and vegetables. I can count on having it at least once….and probably more….every time he comes to stay. I have come to like it almost as much as he does. Fayez wants to be a doctor. However, if the doctor thing doesn't work out….and it will, of course….he can always become a world class chef. Fayez cooking in the kitchen.

Fayez working at my house Not only is Fayez an excellent chef…..but he is always willing to pitch in and be my handy-man whenever I need his help….usually, but not always, with a smile on his face. One of our notable projects was constructing a large bird feeder. It will never appear on the cover of “Better (Bird) Homes and Garden” ….and it would probably end up in the slum area of Birdville, USA….but the birds don't know any difference, and they flock to it eagerly, no doubt grateful for his efforts. Fayez will probably never be a master craftsman. But whatever he lacks in expertise, he makes up for in manpower….and kindness and generosity.

One of Fayez's favorite activities is running….something I discovered the second day he stayed at my house. This pictures shows him running on a beautiful summer day at Paradise Point. But, he runs in all sorts of weather. In fact, the first time I took him running….and I went walking, of course…. was in a rather heavy snow storm. I can imagine that was a novel change from running over the hot desert sands of Saudi Arabia. He has run in some races….big races….while he has been here. And, he has taken first place in his age division in every one of them. Fayez running.

Fayez at coast Like the old Johnny Cash song says, “ We've been everywhere….. ” Sometimes it seems that we spent about as much time in a car as we did at home. Traveling is one of our favorite things to do…. “ On the road again; going places where I have never been; seeing things that I may never see again…… ” (John Denver) Fayez and I have been to approximately 40 states….and we do not plan to stop until we have visited all 50 of them. Just give us a rental car and a KOA campground… throw in the rice cooker and the electric cooler….and we are good to go.

Thumbs Up! Yes…. That is a good way to describe Fayez. This is picture of Fayez and me on a beautiful autumn afternoon in Hutchinson, Kansas. You can see his bright smile….the one I have come to associate with him. This picture was taken immediately before we attended a live performance of
“ Fiddler on the Roof ” at a local community college. About halfway through the performance, the smile seemed to disappear…..and we decided to leave during the intermission. Oh well… Fayez is going to be a doctor….not a movie star. Sorry girls!
